All About Us
Hedon Nursery School is situated in the Market Town of Hedon, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It enjoys a favourable outlook onto Market Hill Green, with the prestigious Saint Augustine’s Church in the background.
It is a Local Authority Maintained Nursery school with an all-weather outdoor area. The original school was opened in 1873 as a boarding school. It has gone through various transitions including community use and in 1990 was refurbished and opened as Hedon Nursery School.
At the moment our staffing consists of Executive Head teacher, one fulltime Nursery teacher, five Key workers, full-time and part-time Teaching Assistants, Administration Officer, Administration Assistant and a Caretaker/Cleaner. Staff are fully qualified in the delivery of EYFS curriculum and supporting child development. The Governing body is made up of authority, parent, staff and coopted governors, who are responsible for ensuring good quality in everything that we do.
We enjoy a favourable reputation in Hedon and the surrounding area and our last Ofsted inspection judged the school to be ‘Outstanding’ with Grade 1 for every category.
According to entitlement, each child can access 15 or 30 hours of free Nursery school education in the term after their 3rd birthday. Extra sessions are available to purchase including early starts and lunchtimes with a packed lunch and full day sessions - please see the info & policy tab.
Key teachers have the responsibility for ensuring that each child makes progress according to their own individual level of development as well as building a strong partnership with each child and their family. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We have excellent facilities and an extensive range of equipment for indoor learning. Our outdoor provision is equally exciting and varied. We have a large sand pit, soft play area and the outdoor canopies enable children to enjoy all activities safely, whatever the weather, with our extensive range of resources. Children enjoy digging, planting and harvesting in our garden troughs and planters. We have a 'natter tube' and climbing structure with slide, which is a huge success with the children.
